Hull Lighthouse is a unique and innovative charity that supports women who are affected by sexual exploitation including those who are working in street prostitution and those who have exited. We are one of the few organisations that provide unconditional, holistic and long term support in this area and we are recognised by organisations such as 'Beyond the Streets' in our support of vulnerable and marginalised local women.
The work of Hull Lighthouse began in April 1996 as a voluntary service, delivered by women from three churches in the city in response to the rising number of women working on the streets. The volunteers quickly realised that a ‘tea and sympathy’ approach was not sufficient to meet the complex and multifaceted needs of these extremely vulnerable women.
Overtime, the volunteer support work developed into a fully staffed and registered charity.
Today a professional and well respected support service exists. Hull Lighthouse is a Christian charity, but we welcome and support all; regardless of faith, cultural or socio-economic background. Vitally, Hull Lighthouse is the only holistic, outreach service in Hull specifically targeting street based prostitution. We work with agencies locally and nationwide, sharing and disseminating expertise and resources.
